Panasonic Energy to Supply Batteries for Harbinger’s EVs

Panasonic Energy, a division of Japan’s Panasonic Group, has entered into a partnership with Harbinger, a U.S.-based manufacturer of medium-duty electric vehicles. Under the agreement, Panasonic Energy will serve as the official supplier of lithium-ion batteries for Harbinger’s vehicle lineup.

The company will provide its advanced 2170 battery cells, which offer an energy density exceeding 800 watt-hours per liter, to power Harbinger’s proprietary battery systems. These batteries enhance the performance and efficiency of Harbinger’s American-made electric vehicles, including walk-in vans, box trucks, delivery vans, recreational vehicles, and emergency response vehicles. Harbinger designs and manufactures its chassis at its facility in Garden Grove, California.

Initially, Panasonic Energy will produce the battery cells at its facilities in Japan, with shipments delivered to Harbinger’s California headquarters. In the future, the companies plan to expand production to include Panasonic Energy’s manufacturing plant in De Soto, Kansas. This shift will allow Harbinger to integrate U.S.-produced battery cells into its battery packs, achieving the first fully U.S.-sourced battery pack assembly in the commercial vehicle sector.

Harbinger’s vehicles are built on a robust platform designed for medium-duty applications, ensuring reliability and durability. Panasonic Energy brings extensive experience, having supplied billions of lithium-ion batteries globally, powering millions of electric vehicles.

“The battery cells we are using are the latest version Panasonic Energy supplies to the top consumer EV OEMs,” said John Harris, Co-founder and CEO of Harbinger. “Panasonic Energy’s long track record of both high-quality battery cell production and the industry’s lowest defect rates sets them apart and ensures Harbinger’s chassis will be outfitted with the best batteries available today.”

“Harbinger’s chassis design and battery packs stand out as among the safest and most durable in the EV industry, aligning with our high standards for performance and reliability,” stated Kazuo Tadanobu, CEO of Panasonic Energy. “Together, we are enhancing Harbinger’s product offerings while reinforcing our shared commitment to sustainability and electrification within the transportation industry.”
