U.S.-based technology firm Honeywell and Argent LNG have signed an agreement to evaluate the use of Honeywell’s pretreatment solutions at a planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The partnership focuses on enhancing LNG production efficiency to meet global energy demands.

Honeywell provides a range of LNG technologies, including pretreatment, liquefaction, and automation systems to streamline operations. Its pretreatment solutions, such as the modular mercury removal unit, acid gas removal unit, and SeparSIV unit, eliminate contaminants like mercury, carbon dioxide, sulfur, water, and heavy hydrocarbons, ensuring LNG meets industry standards. These systems boost production and operational performance at LNG facilities.

“Honeywell’s innovative LNG technologies will play a pivotal role in addressing energy security by enabling the large-scale production of LNG in countries around the world, including the United States,” said Rajesh Gattupalli, president of Honeywell UOP. “Honeywell’s LNG portfolio includes end-to-end solutions that can be customized and adapted based on the needs of our customers.”

Honeywell’s modular LNG technology can be built off-site and shipped to export terminals, minimizing construction risks and speeding up project timelines compared to conventional methods. This enables facilities to become operational more quickly.

Argent LNG aims to position Port Fourchon as a major LNG export hub, capitalizing on its proximity to key pipeline networks. The planned terminal is designed to produce 12 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG, with the potential to expand to 25 mtpa in a second phase, making it one of the largest LNG export facilities globally. Once operational, it will supply LNG to regions such as Asia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East.

“Argent LNG is committed to delivering clean, secure, and cost-effective energy worldwide. In order to do so, we need to leverage innovative technology and effective pretreatment solutions,” said Jonathan Bass, CEO of Argent LNG. “Honeywell’s proven technology has the potential to help us transform the United States LNG sector and help deliver the LNG the world needs.”

The collaboration aligns with rising global LNG demand, expected to increase significantly by 2040, according to industry forecasts. Argent LNG has also partnered with Baker Hughes to provide liquefaction solutions, power generation equipment, and gas compression systems for the Port Fourchon facility. Additionally, Argent LNG signed a preliminary agreement with the Government of Bangladesh to supply up to 5 mtpa of LNG from the terminal.

This initiative highlights efforts to strengthen the U.S. LNG industry through advanced technology and strategic infrastructure, supporting global energy needs.
