Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy have collaborated on a 131MW wind-solar hybrid project to advance India’s renewable energy efforts. Located in India, this initiative supports sustainable manufacturing and clean energy adoption.

This initiative is a key component of Tata Motors’ sustainability strategy, which aims to meet its RE-100 commitment.

The project will produce around 300 million units of clean electricity each year, enabling Tata Motors to power its six manufacturing plants in Maharashtra and Gujarat. A power purchase agreement ensures the energy meets the needs of these facilities, supporting the company’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

Annually, the initiative is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 200,000 tonnes, significantly lowering the environmental impact of Tata Motors’ vehicle production. This aligns with the company’s sustainability strategy, targeting full renewable energy use ahead of its 2030 RE-100 commitment.

Vishal Badshah, Tata Motors’ vice-president of operations for commercial vehicles, stated: “As a key driver of India’s mobility and logistics ecosystem, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles is proud to lead by example in sustainable manufacturing. This project reinforces our commitment to integrate renewable energy into our operations and reducing our carbon footprint while meeting our RE-100 goals.”

Tata Motors is prioritizing clean energy integration and climate-resilient operations to promote environmentally responsible manufacturing. The project underscores its dedication to sustainable production processes for both commercial and passenger vehicles.

In a separate effort, Tata Power has secured approval from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission to establish a 100MW battery energy storage system in Mumbai by 2027. Equipped with “black start” capabilities, this system will enable rapid power restoration during grid outages, enhancing Mumbai’s energy reliability and preventing widespread disruptions.
