Emsys VPP has started establishing the VPP, connecting over 3,500 solar and wind power plants across Greece. Optimus Energy’s renewable energy portfolio, with nearly 4 GW of installed capacity, represents approximately 50% of Greece’s renewable energy traded under the feed-in premium scheme or through direct market participation.
The VPP incorporates solar and wind power forecasts provided by emsys VPP’s partner, energy & meteo systems. Emsys VPP is delivering a customized VPP solution that supports balancing energy services, creating an additional revenue stream for renewable assets while enhancing grid flexibility. The system also facilitates remote-control tests to ensure compliance with dispatch instructions from Greece’s transmission system operator, IPTO, enabling renewable assets to participate in the balancing services market.
The software provided by emsys VPP allows Optimus Energy to optimize its portfolio by reducing generation during periods of negative electricity prices and maximizing value in short-term energy markets. This approach ensures efficient management of its renewable energy assets.
Stella Zacharia, CEO of Optimus Energy, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating: “We’re excited to play a pivotal role in enhancing power system stability in Greece, while also accessing the emerging ancillary services market as a valuable additional revenue stream for our expanding renewable energy portfolio.” The collaboration is expected to strengthen Optimus Energy’s market position and support Greece’s renewable energy goals.
By leveraging advanced technology and strategic market participation, Optimus Energy and emsys VPP aim to contribute to a more stable and sustainable energy system in Greece, benefiting both the company and the national grid.
