Key milestones have been achieved, including the completion of earthworks for the 110 kV open distribution device (ODD) area and the grounding of the substation. Additionally, construction and installation of the main water intake unit are finished, and the pressure pipeline installation is complete. The HPP building is under active construction, with concreting of levels I-IV finalized up to a height of 727.9 meters. Work on the station building is set to continue throughout this month.
The Karakul Small HPP is designed to have a capacity of 18 MW, generating an average of 110 million kWh annually. This output is expected to supply electricity to approximately 3,600 households in the region, based on an average consumption of 5 kWh per household. The project is slated for completion in the first half of 2026.
The Zhagalmai company serves as both the investor and general contractor for the project. An investment agreement was signed on June 16, 2023, between Karakul HPP and Zhagalmai, formalizing the commitment to develop this renewable energy initiative.
The ongoing construction reflects Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to expand sustainable energy solutions, supporting local communities with clean and stable power. The Karakul Small HPP is poised to contribute significantly to the region’s energy needs upon its completion.
