The installation represents a significant achievement for Siemens Gamesa and its partners. “A huge thank you to Ørsted, partners and our teams who made this milestone possible,” said a Siemens Gamesa representative. “We are proud to see it happen in Taiwan – a growing hub for offshore wind innovation.” The SG 14-236 turbine, designed for high efficiency and performance, is a key component in advancing renewable energy production in the region.
Ørsted, the project developer, recently completed the installation of the first of 66 suction bucket jacket foundations for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms earlier this month. These foundations provide a stable base for the turbines, supporting the project’s progress toward full operation. The collaboration between Siemens Gamesa and Ørsted underscores their commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions through cutting-edge technology.
The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms, located off Taiwan’s coast, are part of efforts to expand renewable energy capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. The 920MW project is expected to contribute significantly to Taiwan’s clean energy goals, powering thousands of households with renewable electricity. “This installation sets a new standard for offshore wind technology, showcasing the potential for innovation in Taiwan’s energy sector,” said an Ørsted spokesperson.
Siemens Gamesa has prior experience with large-scale turbine installations, having deployed its 222-meter rotor machines at Ocean Winds’ 882MW Moray West wind farm off Scotland last year. The expertise gained from such projects has informed the successful deployment of the SG 14-236 turbine in Taiwan, reinforcing Siemens Gamesa’s leadership in offshore wind technology.
The completion of this installation highlights the growing importance of offshore wind in global energy transitions. By combining advanced turbine technology with innovative foundation designs, Siemens Gamesa and Ørsted are paving the way for more efficient and sustainable energy production. The Greater Changhua project strengthens Taiwan’s position as a hub for renewable energy innovation, fostering collaboration and technological advancements in the industry.
