Renova Delays Startup of Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant

06 Jan 2024  by biomassmagazine

Japan-based Renova Inc. on Dec. 22 announced that start up of its 75-megawatt (MW) Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant will be delayed by several months. The facility is currently expected to begin operations in March.

Commissioning is continuing at the Omaezakikou plant, which was originally scheduled to begin operations in December 2023. In its Dec. 22 announcement, Renova said that additional time is needed to make final adjustments to the boiler and rubine facilities to ensure long-term stable operation at the facility. Renova now expects the plant to begin commercial operations in March.

Once operational, the Omaezakikou plant will be fueled by wood pellets and palm kernel shells.

The Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant is one of several biomass power plants developed by Renova. In November 2023, the company announced its 75-MW Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant had begun operations. The following month Renova announced startup of its 74.8 MW Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant. Additional Renova biomass plants that are currently operational include the 20.5 MW Akita Biomass facility and the 75 MW Kanda Biomass plant. Biomass plants currently under construction include the 75 MW Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass plant and the 49.9 MW Karatsu Biomass facility.
