Vestas Achieves the First Wind Project With Repsol With the Most Powerful Wind Turbines Ever Installed in Spain

Repsol has placed an order for 31 MW for the STEV wind farm, part of the Delta II project, which will be located in Aragon, Spain. The contract includes the supply and installation of five V162-6.2 MW wind turbines.

This is the first order for EnVentus V162-6.2 MW wind turbines in Spain and, once installed, they will become the most powerful wind turbines ever built in Spain.

“We trust Vestas as a guarantee provider that will contribute to reaching our closest objective, reaching 6 GW in operation in 2025,” says José Ignacio Bretón, director of Technology and Purchasing at Repsol Low Carbon Generation.

“We want to thank Repsol for its trust in the latest Vestas technology. We are also happy to receive the first order for our EnVentus platform in Spain and look forward to seeing more. Its full-converter technology meets the requirements of the Spanish grid code and its modular configuration adapts case by case to the needs of our customers,” says Agustín Sánchez Tembleque, general director of Vestas for Spain and Portugal.

Delivery of the turbine is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024, while commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of the same year.

Once operational, the wind farm will deliver enough clean energy to cover the electrical demand of 29,000 homes in Spain*, avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of around 29,600 tons of CO2 per year.

Vestas has installed more than 5.2 GW of wind energy in more than 140 wind farms in Spain since installing the first turbine in 1991.
