The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) was signed on 7 December, in the presence of NPAA Chairman Amged El-Wakeel, and ENEC Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi.

The two organisations "expressed their wish to further enhance the cooperation between the two countries, in particular, with respect to the peaceful applications of nuclear energy", NPAA said. The MoU will allow both parties to explore potential opportunities for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant, comprising four Russian-designed and supplied VVER-1200 units nuclear power plant project, is under way at the El Dabaa project, about 320 kilometres north-west of Cairo.
