Japan's Takuma to Build 7.1MW No.2 Biomass Plant

23 Aug 2023  by argusmedia
Japan's engineering firm Takuma plans to build a 7.1MW biomass-fired power generation plant in northern prefecture Yamagata's Shinjo city, targeting to begin commercial operations in mid-October 2026.

The biomass power plant will consume 80,000 t/yr of unused woody biomass chips collected within the Yamagata region and sell electricity under the country's feed-in-tariff scheme. The firm plans to start building the plant from May 2025.

The plant is domestic biomass firm Mogami's second biomass power plant, and Takuma also previously built a 6.8MW biomass power plant in Shinjo for Mogami that started commercial operations in December 2018.

Takuma is also in charge of building the 2MW Yahaba biomass power plant in northern Iwate prefecture for domestic power utility Chubu Electric Power, material supplier Inabata and renewable power developer Furusato FIC Energy.
