Enapter Collaborates With Wolong to Supply Aem Electrolysers to Chinese Customers

Enapter has signed a framework supply contract with Chinese company Wolong to deliver 5MW multi-core systems for customers in China and 130 single-core AEM electrolysers.

The contract, worth more than €6m ($6.5m), will see the two companies jointly make modular hydrogen solutions competitive in China, with Enapter aiming to gain a significant market share in China within the next few years.

Wolong is a leading engine and drive manufacturer active in the renewable energy sector with a history of developing power supplies for electrolysers of various power ranges. Enapter’s technology will be used at different test sites in many application environments.

Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, CEO of Enapter, exclusively told H2 View that Wolong will establish a sales unit and will start selling Enapter systems – in the beginning with the support or Enapter. Alongside this they will also install a demo centre where they can showcase how to install and maintain an AEM Electrolyser.

He added, “Like other areas in the world China is focussed on large scale electrolyser –mainly alkaline electrolysers. But there are also strong demands for smaller, decentralized system, as well as a huge demand for testing systems. Perfect suited for AEM Electrolyser from Enapter.”

Douglas Pang, Chairman of Wolong Electric Drive Group, commented, “Our company visions fit together perfrectly: Enapter has the goal of being the world’s leading provider of AEM electrolysers.

“Wolong shares this vision and wants to play a key role as a manufacturer in China to expand the local and global hydrogen industry with Wolong components.”

Schmidt added, “Wolong’s pragmatic and performance-based nature, combined with the desire for long-term cooperation has brought us together. With the rollout of the first AEM electrolysers in China, they also offer excellent service and show real customer orientation.”

In May (2023), Enapter unveiled the world’s ‘first’ MW-class AEM electrolyser capable of producing green hydrogen. The AEM Multicore is expected to be a cost-effective alternative to conventional MW-class electrolysers, featuring 420 core modules which are then combined into a total system that can produce around 450kg of green hydrogen per day.

The company also received an order for the delivery of two AEM electrolysers in January (2023) from South Korea, which will boast a total capacity of 2MW.

Set to be used in a 12.5MW hydrogen pilot project on Jeju Island, the systems are anticipated to produce more than 1,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
