Nordex Receives an Order for 62 MW of Wind Power From Rwe in Germany

At the end of March, the Nordex Group received an order from RWE to supply and install eleven Delta4000 wind turbines for two projects in Lower Saxony, Germany, totaling 61.8 MW.

Seven N149/5.X wind turbines and one N133/4800 machine will be supplied for the 44.7 MW Lesse wind farm. The 17.1 MW Barbecke wind farm will be equipped with three N149/5.X wind turbines.

RWE had been awarded contracts for both projects in onshore wind power auctions on February 1, 2023.

The two wind farms in the Peine and Salzgitter districts are repowering projects in which a total of 17 older wind turbine models are replaced by eleven much more powerful machines. Taken together, this will allow the previous production of the wind farms to be doubled from 30.6 MW to 61.8 MW and reduce the number of turbines.

“We are pleased to be able to support RWE in the future with our technology at the Lesse and Barbecke wind farms as they move forward to produce more electricity from renewables,” says Felipe Villalon Waldburg-Zeil, sales director for the central region. from Nordex. Cluster. And he adds: “In the case of repowering, less is more. Thanks to efficient modern turbine technology, the electricity generated by older wind farms can be significantly increased by using fewer turbines. In 2022 in Germany, 246 266 MW wind turbines were dismantled and replaced by 103 423 MW wind turbines. Repowering for onshore wind energy will become increasingly important in Germany in the future. Almost 6,000 old turbines have been in operation for more than 20 years.

The Group has installed around 44 GW of wind power capacity in more than 40 markets and generated revenue of €5.7 billion in 2022. The company currently employs a workforce of approx. 9,000. Joint manufacturing capacity includes factories in Brazil, Germany, India, Mexico, Spain and the United States. The product portfolio is focused on onshore turbines in the 4 to 6.X MW class, which are tailor-made for the market requirements of countries with limited space and regions with limited grid capacity.
