The solar park can generate more than 560GWh of electricity.

The 200-megawatt (MW) Baynouna Solar Park in Jordan, the largest clean energy project in the country, has been formally inaugurated.

In a statement, Baynouna Solar Energy (BSCE), a joint venture between Masdar and Finnish investment and asset management group Taaleri, said the solar park can produce over 560 gigawatt-hours of energy annually that can power 160,000 homes.

The plant, which was developed through a power purchase deal between Masdar and National Electric Power Company, could avoid 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually which is equivalent to taking almost 80,000 cars off the road.

The project was supported by several financial institutions including the International Finance Corporation, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the KfW Group’s DEG, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
