Eni Signs Deal to Deploy a Second Flng Unit in Congo

26 Dec 2022  by https://www.enerdata.net/

Eni has signed a contract with Wison Heavy Industry for the construction and installation of a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) unit with a capacity of 2.4 Mt/year, which will be deployed offshore the Republic of Congo. This facility will be the second FLNG to be deployed in the Republic of Congo, the first one being Tango FLNG (0.6 Mt/year capacity). LNG production expected to begin in 2023. With this second FLNG, overall LNG production capacity on Marine XII will reach 3 Mt/year (over 4.5 bcm/year) in 2025.

In April 2022, the Italian energy group signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Congolese government to increase gas production and export in the country. The agreement provides for the acceleration and increase of gas production in Congo. LNG exports would allow a production of gas that exceeds Congo’s internal market needs.

Eni is the leading natural gas producer in Congo. The country's marketed gas production increased tenfold between 2010 (103 mcm) and 2019 (1 bcm) before falling by 30% in 2020 to around 700 mcm. Congo does not currently produce or export LNG.
