The company Greenco Ecopark based in Novi Sad plans to build a photovoltaic facility with a capacity of 80 megawatts (MW) in Kikinda city territory.
Greenco Ecopark will install a solar power plant in the area of the village Sajan on 150 hectares of uncultivated land of the lowest quality, the City of Kikinda said and added the investment is estimated at EUR 60-70 million.
Greenco Ecopark has spent the last two years buying individual plots in order to establish a unique complex of 100 hectares. Last year the feasibility study was prepared by the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad.
The development of a detailed regulation plan for the construction of a solar photovoltaic plant is underway.
The city administration has supported the initiative for drafting a detailed regulation plan for the construction of a PV facility, which covers an even larger area, about 150 hectares of uncultivated land of the lowest quality, the city said.
The plan is being prepared by the Institute for Urbanism of Vojvodina from Novi Sad, and its development is financed by the investor.
The investor also finances the construction of part of the transmission system.
In parallel with the development of the plan, a study will be prepared for the planned grid connection to the transmission system as well as the part that will be run by transmission system operator Elektromreža Srbije (EMS). The expenses will be covered by the investor, the city stressed.
The expected annual production is about 120 GWh, and the electricity would be sold on the market. The project would reduce CO2 emissions by about 60,000 tons annually.
Of note, the construction of solar power plants in the Western Balkans is experiencing expansion. Projects have been announced in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
