Work to install the 50 Vestas V174-9.5MW machines will start in 2024 using the jack-up vessel Blue Tern.

Fred Olsen Windcarrier said the vessel was nominated for the job due to its ability to operate at deep water sites.

“The Baltic Sea represents challenging soil conditions which requires significant available leg lengths and jacking experience,” the company said.

Vestas head of marine operations and vessel management Dennis Mordhorst said: “Our collaboration with (Fred Olsen Windcarrier) goes back for years and this contract award emphasises once again our strong partnership.

“(Fred Olsen Windcarrier) brings their proven offshore wind expertise and a highly capable vessel to the Baltic Eagle site and we look forward to a safe and successful project execution.”

Fred Olsen Windcarrier chief commercial officer Casper Toft said: “We are extremely proud to win another transport and installation contract directly with Vestas.

“This contract clearly showcases the diversity and competitiveness of our fleet and our ability to de-risk the execution of a challenging project.

“We look forward to supporting Vestas and Iberdrola in the Baltic Sea in 2024.”
