Vestas Secures Turbine Supply Contract for Ukraine Wind Project

Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured a contract from DTEK Renewables to supply wind turbines for 372MW of the Tiligul wind project in Ukraine.

Vestas will supply 62 of its V162-6.0MW wind turbines, each with a hub height of 125m, for the second phase of the 500MW project.

In March, the company supplied wind turbines for the first phase of the project, which has 126MW of capacity.

Vestas Northern and Central Europe president Nils de Baar said: “Securing the 372MW [of capacity] in the second phase of the Tiligul project is an important step for Vestas to take in applying our EnVentus platform in Ukraine.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with DTEK Renewables in delivering one of the most ambitious projects in Ukraine.

“Both phases of the Tiligul project are revolutionising onshore wind in Ukraine with the implementation of industry-leading technology through our EnVentus platform.”

Vestas has also agreed to provide its services for both phases of the DTEK Tiligul project under a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement.

Through this agreement, the company will provide ‘power performance certainty’ and its ‘service expertise’ throughout the project’s lifetime.

The entire wind facility is expected to come online by the end of the third quarter of next year.

DTEK Renewables CEO Maris Kunickis said: “DTEK will continue to invest in clean and affordable energy to develop Ukraine’s renewable energy industry.

“Transforming the Ukrainian energy sector, developing green energy and installing new RES capacities is one of the most effective tools for achieving climate neutrality and our ability to gradually reduce emissions, in order to meet the European and Green Deal requirements.”

Last month, Vestas agreed to supply turbines for Brazilian firm Omega Energia’s Assuruá Four project in Bahia, Brazil.

Vestas will supply 47 V150-4.2MW turbines for the 212MW project, which is located in the cities of Gentio do Ouro and Xique-Xique. The turbines will be delivered in their 4.5MW power-optimised mode.
