08 Jun 2021  by Rosatom

On 3 June 2021, the Atomic Energy Commission of Costa Rica and Rosatom signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.

The document was signed by Nikolai Spassky, Deputy Director General - Director for International Relations at Rosatom, on the Russian side, and Esteban Picado Sandi, Director of the Atomic Energy Commission, on the Costa Rican side.

This is the first document in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy signed between the Republic of Costa Rica and the Russian Federation. The Memorandum creates the basis for the development of cooperation in a wide range of areas including the increase of public acceptance of nuclear technologies, development of nuclear infrastructure of the Republic of Costa Rica, and the non-energy use of nuclear technologies in industry, agriculture and healthcare.

The parties agreed to have extensive face-to-face consultations on first practical steps related to the cooperation, as soon as the pandemic situation allows.
