Earlier this month, French plant services firm Framatome signed a deal supporting long-term operations of Dominion Energy’s nuclear energy fleet.

The deal with Framatome covers nuclear plant outage and maintenance work, including fleet steam generator services, refueling and inspections. The contract runs through 2026.

“Dominion is one of our long-standing and valued customers. We are proud to offer them our team’s strong expertise and excellence in inspection and maintenance, to support the long-term operation of their reactor fleet,” Catherine Cornand, senior vice president of the Installed Base Business Unit at Framatome, said in a statement.

Framatome will utilize more than 1,100 of its Virginia-based employees to support the Dominion contract over the next five years. The company will leverage its expanded portfolio of equipment and tooling for steam generator services.

The deal includes refueling services at the V.C. Summer, Millstone, North Anna and Surry (pictured) nuclear power plants through 2024, according to the release. Framatome also will provide MRP-227 (material reliability program) examinations and 10-year in-service inspections at Surry and V.C. Summer over the next two years.

Dominion’s four nuclear stations provide carbon-free electricity to more than three million customers. Surry and North Anna are both in Virginia and were originally commissioned in the 1970s and early 1980s. Millstone is located in Connecticut and the Summer nuclear station is in South Carolina and was acquired when Dominion merged with SCANA Corp. in 2019.
