Plans Progress for Barcelona’s First Hydrogen Station

A new contract has been signed to ensure ultimate safety at Barcelona’s first-ever hydrogen station.

Global engineering and technology company Vysus Group today (20th April) signed a contract to deliver a range of technical safety and risk studies at the facility which will be located in the Port of Barcelona.

Iberdrola will construct the station and plans production of 160kg of hydrogen per day. This will then later increase to 1,200kg per day, according to a recently released statement.

The project is currently in the design and purchasing stage.

“Establishing a full-scale green hydrogen facility in a non-industrial environment – in this case in the Port of Barcelona – represents a challenge,” said Angel Casal, Principal Risk, Safety & Reliability Consultant with Vysus Group.

“Iberdrola wants to ensure that the safety and any risks associated with the plant are systematically managed using good practices.”

“By seeking our technical advice, the client can incorporate the maximum inherent safety approaches into its design. Ultimately, the output from our technical advice should demonstrate a safe design and address any concerns by third parties.”
