Tajikistan has huge hydropower resources and is one of the world’s largest producers of green energy, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon said during a meeting with workers at the Rogun HPP.

Construction of hydroelectric power plants on the Tajik rivers will help balance the demand for electricity, ensure sustainable management of water resources and reduce the energy deficit in the region, Sputnik – Tajikistan quoted him as saying on October 15.

“We are developing a number of projects and implementing them in cooperation with international partners to increase the production of environmentally friendly electricity, that is, electricity generated from renewable energy sources. We want to use this excellent opportunity not only for our own benefit, but also for the benefit of other people, including the peoples of Central and South Asia,” Rahmon said.

He noted that Tajikistan is currently implementing 12 investment projects for a total of 13.3 billion somoni. In particular, the reconstruction of the Nurek and Sarband Hydroelectric Power Plants, the construction of the Sebzor Hydroelectric Power Plant, the construction of the Power Line in Romit and others are underway.

Rahmon added that in the near future it is planned to commission the constructed Rogun-Sangtuda power transmission line.
