23 Sep 2020  by Air Products

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a leading global industrial gases company serving the China market for over 33 years, today announced the appointment of its China President Saw Choon Seong by the People’s Government of Chongqing Municipality, China as Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisor.

The appointment, taking place during the 15th Annual Conference of Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA), reinforces Air Products’ continued commitment to the inland megacity in Southwest China.

“Chongqing is playing an increasingly important role in China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ Initiative, Western Development and Yangtze River Economic Belt. I am very honored to serve as the Mayor’s advisor to provide support as the vibrant city advances toward its goal of becoming China’s inland open up highland and an international gateway and hub,” Saw said to Chongqing Vice Mayor Li Bo during a one-on-one online meeting which was part of the annual conference.

“Air Products has a long-term commitment to growing together with Chongqing and has built a solid presence to serve the local electronics and other manufacturing industries over the past 13 years,” Saw said. “We plan to expand our investments to support Chongqing’s sustainable development, especially its drive to further upgrade its electronics industry and develop the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market by leveraging our innovative technologies and solutions in these areas.”

The People's Government of Chongqing Municipality established the CMIA in 2006 to enlist the aid of senior executives from Fortune 500 and other leading companies in formulating economic and social development policies and enhance international companies’ understanding of the municipality’s economic and business environment.

The largest inland port city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Southwest China, the provincial-level Municipality of Chongqing is a key advanced manufacturing base in China and a hub for economy, finance, technology, shipping, trading and logistics in the upper Yangtze River region. It is striving to further open up to become a brilliant star in the “One Belt, One Road” and Yangtze River Economic Delta region.

Chongqing is one of Air Products’ first markets in western China. The company established its first project in Chongqing in 2007 in the Xiyong Micro-Electronics Industrial Park to supply high-purity electronics gases and specialty gases to China Resources Microelectronics (Chongqing) Ltd for semiconductor production. With a focus on the local electronics industry, Air Products has continued its investments to serve other TFT-LCD, smart wearable device, steel and glass container customers.
