Centrica to Supply for Ford’s EV Charging Infrastructure

04 Aug 2019  by Smart Energy International

UK energy company Centrica has signed a deal with Ford to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure both for Ford customers and at its dealerships.

It’s hoped that Ford’s customers will also sign up for the utility's EV-specific tariffs.

The move is part of Centrica’s transition to an energy services business, and launched dedicated Mobility Ventures unit in the first half of 2019.

Centrica will develop an installation service to be rolled out across hundreds of Ford dealerships, and also offer EV tariffs from British Gas and Bord Gáis Energy which allow lower energy prices for overnight charging.

The announcement however, came as Centrica revealed that operating profits have almost halved, falling to £399 million and resulting in a 58% dividend cut. The news was followed by the announced retirement of CEO Iain Conn.

Ford hasn’t yet launched electric vehicles in the UK, but plans to have 16 all-electric models available globally by 2025.

“Our partnership with Centrica will enable us to offer a one-stop shop for our customers as they transition to an electrified vehicle, including exciting new vehicle options, wall box, installation service and electricity tariff,” said Ford MD, Andy Barratt.
