Sushil Purohit has been appointed president of Wärtsilä Energy, executive vice president, and member of the Board of Management of Wärtsilä Corp., effective Aug. 3. In this position, he is responsible for Wärtsilä’s Energy business globally and will report to President & CEO Jaakko Eskola.

The current Head of Wärtsilä Energy, Marco Wirén, leaves Wärtsilä to become the CFO of Nokia Corp, a move that was announced earlier.

“I am truly humbled by this opportunity. Wärtsilä is extremely well-positioned in the energy markets, and we have great potential for the future,” Purohit said. “With a team of highly-skilled and motivated people, streamlined end-to-end organization, market-leading technology, and a relentless focus on innovation, we are committed to playing a significant part in decarbonizing the energy infrastructure across the globe.”

Purohit, 48, joined Wärtsilä in 1998 as a sales support engineer and has since held several key sales and management positions in various geographies in the Energy business. As of January, Purohit has led the Energy business in the Americas, which has recently become Wärtsilä’s most active area for power plant projects and services.

“I am very pleased to have Sushil join our executive team and lead the Energy business. With a Wärtsilä-career of more than 22 years, he has the expertise and experience needed to secure Wärtsilä’s leading position in the ongoing energy transition,” Eskola said. “His open leadership style and likable personality have resulted in great success in implementing our strategy and gaining the trust of customers.”
