Solar Park with 10,000 Panels Being Constructed in Southern Estonia

23 Apr 2020  by The Baltic Times

A 10,000-panel solar power farm is being constructed at the initiative of a company by the name Solar Light OU in the Jaanikese village near the southern border town of Valga, to which the Valga rural municipality issued a construction permit on Feb 20, the regional Louna-Eesti Postimees reports.

The property was already largely covered with metal support structures for the panels last week.

Member of the board of Solar Light OU Heino Hobeoja said that the proximity of electric lines was the determining factor for the company's choice of location.

"There is a suitable power grid there for production," he said.

The solar park was designed by the company Nordic Power Management. The 5.72-hectare property is entirely planned to be covered with solar panels and all of the electricity produced will be sold to the grid. The cost of the solar farm amounts to over one million euros, according to Hobeoja, and the project is expected to generate a return on the investment within 10 years.

The total capacity of the solar park will be 1,600 kilowatts, or 1.6 megawatts.
