UK Plans All the New-Build Homes Fitted With EV Charging Points

18 Jul 2019

UK lawmakers have revealed plans which could see all new-build homes in the country fitted with electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The plans would support what the country’ government has called “the growing uptake of electric vehicles within the UK”

If passed, the new law would require all new-build homes with a parking space to have at least on charging point installed to allow for cheaper, and more convenient for UK EV owners. At present, EV owners can apply for a grant of up to £500 to offset the costs of installation at their residences.

Worldwide EV sales in 2018 reached almost two million according to the International Energy Agency, with China’s EV market easily ranking as the world’s largest market for the technology, with both the US and UK trailing behind.

UK Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said that there was “an appetite for cleaner, greener transport.” “Home charging provides the most convenient and low-cost option for consumers — you can simply plug your car in to charge overnight as you would a mobile phone,” Grayling added.
