Canadian Solar Hits 23.81% Conversion Efficiency for N-type P5 Cell

07 Mar 2020  by Renewables Now
Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) today announced a new conversion efficiency world record of 23.81% for an n-type large area multi-crystalline silicon solar cell.

The record was recently tested and certified by Germany's Institute fuer Solarenergieforschung GmbH (ISFH). It follows Canadian Solar’s 22.8% conversion efficiency record for a p-type P5 cell set in September 2019.

The latest milestone was reached with a cell featuring a 157mm x 157mm (area 246.44 sq cm) n-type P5 silicon wafer and made using PASCon (Passivated Contact) technology.

“This is a milestone for our revolutionary n-type P5 technology development. It proves that both our p-type and n-type multi-crystalline silicon technology can achieve efficiencies as good as mono,” commented Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar.
