Wartsila to supply gas power plant for industrial park in Bangladesh

14 Feb 2020  by Power Technology
Finnish company Wartsila has received a contract to supply 78MW engine power plant to support an industrial complex in Bangladesh.

Wartsila secured the contract in November from Jamuna Power, part of Bangladesh’s industrial conglomerate Jamuna Group.

Equipped with eight Wartsila 34SG engines, the power plant will be installed at Jamuna Industrial Park located in the north-eastern part of Bangladesh. The engines in the power plant will be fuelled by gas.

The installation of the power plant would ensure a reliable supply and cost-effective electricity to the industrial park.

Currently, the industrial park operates using electricity from the national grid.

Jamuna Power managing director Shamim Islam said: “An uninterrupted power supply is a basic need for industry, and to ensure this, we need to have our own captive plant. Wartsila has a strong presence in Bangladesh with a first-rate track record and excellent support capabilities.

“What is more, they can deliver the plant quickly. It was an easy decision for us to choose Wartsila.”
