The project was awarded via ANEEL’s transmission auction No. 01/2022.
The company has completed all foundational work and erected 3,217 of the planned 3,244 towers, achieving 99% of the tower construction. Neoenergia stated: “The foundation process is crucial for guaranteeing the long-term stability, safety, and strength of infrastructure.” This process involves deep excavations, precise concreting, and installing fittings to support substantial metal structures, tailored to diverse soil conditions along the route.
Awarded through the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) transmission auction No. 01/2022, the project enhances grid capacity between northern Minas Gerais and São Paulo, enabling efficient energy transfer from inland generation sources.
Cable installation is progressing steadily, with 1,226 km of the planned 1,573 km completed, marking 78% of the cabling work. Overall, the project has reached 93% completion.
Neoenergia anticipates finalizing all critical tasks by the end of 2025, enabling the commissioning of this infrastructure, which is vital for Brazil’s energy network. The Alto Paranaíba project will strengthen the reliability and security of the National Interconnected System, supporting the country’s energy demands.
As one of South America’s largest energy distributors by customer base, Neoenergia ranks second in Brazil for energy distribution volume. Last month, Iberdrola increased its stake in Neoenergia to 84% by acquiring an additional 30.29% from Caixa de Previdência dos Funcionários do Banco do Brasil for 11.95 billion reais ($2.2 billion), equivalent to 32.5 reais per share.
This project underscores Neoenergia’s commitment to advancing Brazil’s energy infrastructure, ensuring stable and efficient power delivery across key regions.
