Spain-based engineering consultancy BlueNewables has secured the Administrative Authorizations for Public Domain Occupation from the Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV) for its PV-bos Valencia floating solar project. The initiative is co-financed by IDAE under the RENMARINAS programme.

BlueNewables highlighted the achievement in a social media post: “Another major milestone for BlueNewables, as we have successfully obtained the Administrative Authorizations for Public Domain Occupation from the Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV).”

According to the company, APV will in the coming weeks carry out buoy marking of the designated area. This step is aligned with the recently awarded contract for the installation of the mooring system. By the end of 2025, BlueNewables expects to have the pre-installed mooring system set up at Valencia, while commissioning works for the first PV-bos platform continue in Vigo before it is towed to the project site.

The PV-bos system is a proprietary technology developed by BlueNewables. It integrates bifacial solar panels with modular floating structures and containerised inverters. Seawater is used as a natural refrigerant, which the company states enhances overall energy efficiency.

In April this year, BlueNewables entered into a strategic partnership with Spanish firm Abervian to support the development of a 1 MW floating solar platform. The project is planned for installation at the Port of Valencia in 2026, further expanding the use of floating photovoltaic systems in maritime environments.

Progress has also been made on the construction side. In August, Astilleros San Enrique, part of Grupo Marina Meridional, reached a new phase in building the BlueNewables floating solar project. The milestone involved the keel laying of the first of two platforms at the former Factorias Vulcano site in Vigo, marking significant advancement toward deployment.

Through these developments, BlueNewables continues to position itself as a contributor to Spain’s renewable energy expansion. The PV-bos Valencia project reflects ongoing efforts to integrate innovative solar technologies into coastal and port infrastructure, combining energy generation with efficient maritime engineering solutions.
