In Baotou, Inner Mongolia, Rockcheck Group, the Jiuyuan District government, and Huadian Hydrogen Energy signed a strategic agreement to deploy 1,000 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks by the end of 2026. The initiative, part of a zero-carbon freight corridor, integrates green hydrogen production, refueling infrastructure, and fleet operations to promote sustainable transportation.

The project will begin with 100 trucks in 2025, scaling to 1,000 by 2026. These trucks, featuring 200kW fuel-cell systems co-developed with Geely, provide a range of up to 700 km. The plan includes logistics hubs and hydrogen refueling stations powered by local wind and solar electrolyzers. Rockcheck stated: “This initiative showcases how heavy-duty transport decarbonization can be achieved by linking clean hydrogen production directly to logistics demand.”

The project utilizes CAR Inc.’s network of over 2,000 locations to establish refueling stations at key transport hubs, prioritizing solar power and supporting grid stability. A digital fleet management platform will enhance efficiency, while a battery health monitoring system ensures safety and performance. The agreement was signed by Cao Yongwei of Baotou New Materials Industrial Park, Wang Xinyu of Huadian Hydrogen Energy, and Lu Caiyin of Rongcheng New Energy Group, witnessed by key figures including Liu Junyi, Secretary of the Jiuyuan District Committee, and Zhang Ronghua, Chairman of Rongcheng Group.

This initiative bolsters Baotou’s “wind-solar-hydrogen-ammonia” ecosystem, aiming to attract equipment manufacturers and serve as a model for decarbonizing heavy-haul transport across China’s industrial regions. Rockcheck New Energy Group, a division of Rongcheng Group, focuses on integrating hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. Operating 11 hydrogen refueling stations and 700 fuel-cell vehicles, the company targets deploying 10,000 trucks within five years.

The project includes a hydrogen logistics park with digital management and high-capacity refueling stations. A digital platform will support data collection for safe and efficient operations. Liu Junyi and other officials visited Rongcheng’s facilities, including its green hydrogen production and fuel-cell manufacturing sites, to review its sustainable energy advancements.

This collaboration aims to create a comprehensive hydrogen energy ecosystem in Baotou, fostering clean, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.
