The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed during a France-Indonesia business event attended by French President Emmanuel Macron. The collaboration will focus on studying, producing, and promoting sustainable fuels, examining market conditions, regulations, and infrastructure in Indonesia, France, Morocco, and Australia.
Based in Jakarta, Pertamina seeks to expand its offerings with eco-friendly fuels, responding to Indonesia’s shift from oil exporter to net importer due to rising domestic demand. The company is aligning with global environmental standards, including the International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero Framework.
“This partnership with MGH Energy is a significant step toward advancing sustainable fuel solutions,” said a Pertamina NRE representative. “We are dedicated to developing renewable synthetic fuels to support cleaner energy for maritime and aviation industries.”
In December 2023, Pertamina partnered with Japan’s JERA to explore low-carbon fuels like LNG, ammonia, and hydrogen, supporting Indonesia’s net zero emissions goal by 2060. The MGH Energy collaboration will further these efforts by studying fuel viability and expanding sustainable energy in high-potential markets.
