Dan Halstrom, President and CEO of USMEF, highlighted strong demand in key markets, stating: “March was another spectacular month for U.S. pork demand in Mexico and Central America, but exports also rebounded nicely to Colombia and Korea.” He noted that duty-free access has significantly supported growth in these regions, despite increased competition.
Regarding market access, Halstrom indicated that most U.S. pork facilities regained eligibility for exports to China in mid-March 2025. He explained: “Shipments already in the pipeline can still clear without the extra 125% tariff, provided they shipped before April 10 and arrive in China by May 13.” However, he cautioned that new export opportunities to China are currently limited due to high tariffs of 172% on U.S. pork, which have paused further business expansion in that market.
The robust performance in March reflects the continued global demand for U.S. pork, particularly in regions benefiting from favorable trade conditions. The USMEF remains focused on sustaining export growth by leveraging market access agreements and addressing competitive pressures in the global pork trade.
