Adani Power Ltd., India’s leading private thermal power producer, has secured a competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW (net) of thermal power to Uttar Pradesh. The company will deliver power at a tariff of Rs 5.383 per unit from a new 2×800 MW ultra-supercritical power plant, to be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model in Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the project earlier in May 2025, and Adani Power received the Letter of Award (LoA) on May 13, 2025. The company will now finalize a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL).

S.B. Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power, stated: “We are happy to have won the competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW power to UP state and feel privileged to play a leading role in meeting the state’s rapidly growing power demand. We plan to set up a modern and low emission Ultra-supercritical plant in UP and aim to begin supplying reliable and high-quality power by FY30.”

Khyalia added that Adani Power will invest approximately $2 billion in the plant and its infrastructure. The project is expected to create 8,000–9,000 jobs during construction and around 2,000 jobs once operational, supporting local employment.

Uttar Pradesh’s thermal power demand is projected to increase by approximately 11,000 MW by 2033–34, driven by industrialization, urbanization, and modernization. This 1,500 MW contract is part of the state’s strategy to address future energy needs. The ultra-supercritical plant will incorporate advanced technology to ensure efficient power generation with reduced emissions, aligning with sustainable energy goals.

This marks Adani Power’s second significant PSA in the past year, following a 6,600 MW agreement (1,600 MW thermal and 5,000 MW solar) with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) in September 2024, which has since been converted into a PSA. The Uttar Pradesh project strengthens Adani Power’s role in meeting India’s growing energy demands through reliable and efficient power supply.
