BYD Launches New Residential Battery

09 May 2025  by pv magazine
At the Smart E trade fair held from May 7-9, 2025, in Munich, Germany, BYD Energy Storage unveiled its latest residential battery system, the Battery-Box HVB, also known as the high voltage Blade. This system represents the fourth generation of BYD’s home energy storage solutions, which began in 2015.

The Battery-Box HVB integrates BYD’s Blade Battery technology, originally developed for its electric vehicles. This technology enhances energy density, offering improved performance compared to previous models. The system maintains a modular design, consistent with BYD’s earlier HVS and HVM products, allowing flexibility for residential applications.

The HVB system starts with a capacity of 5.9 kWh using two battery modules and can scale up to 29.6 kWh with 10 modules in a stacked cabinet format. For larger energy needs, up to three systems can be connected in parallel, achieving a maximum capacity of 89.07 kWh. Each 2.97 kWh module weighs 27.3 kg, is IP55-rated, and supports a peak output of 50.18 kW for 15 seconds.

Jiang Feng, Residential Energy Storage System Director at BYD Energy Storage, stated: “Our energy storage system builds on BYD’s more than three decades of in-depth experience in battery technology development and application. We are very proud that we could contribute to the European energy transition by providing efficient and reliable energy storage systems during the past ten years.”

The HVB features a cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, ensuring safety, durability, and high performance. Its one-click configuration simplifies setup, and an upgraded app enhances user experience. The system is compatible with leading inverters, including those from Fronius, GoodWe, SMA, and Sungrow, making it versatile for both on-grid and off-grid use. With a roundtrip efficiency of at least 96%, the HVB supports energy self-consumption and backup power needs.

BYD’s launch at the Smart E trade fair also marked a celebration of 10 years of its residential storage solutions. The Battery-Box series, including the HVB, has gained recognition for reliability and flexibility, contributing to sustainable energy practices. The system’s design minimizes environmental impact while meeting global safety standards, such as VDE 2510-50, and is suitable for diverse climates, operating effectively between -10°C and 50°C.

The introduction of the Battery-Box HVB underscores BYD’s commitment to advancing clean energy storage, supporting homeowners in optimizing renewable energy use and enhancing grid stability.
