Under this partnership, Optimus Energy will serve as the exclusive service provider for the route-to-market, while Enspired, an Austria-based optimization specialist, will bring advanced algorithm-driven trading and real-time strategy execution to the table. The goal is to fully harness the potential of grid-scale battery assets in Greece, a country rich in solar energy but currently lacking the necessary storage infrastructure to balance supply and demand.
The collaboration will begin with a portfolio of 270MW of energy storage projects. Greece has a surplus of solar energy, but without sufficient battery storage, this leads to excessive volatility and unmonitored curtailments. As Greece continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, the lack of storage will result in even greater levels of lost power.
Stella Zacharia, CEO of Optimus Energy, highlighted the urgency of the situation: “We are facing extreme curtailments around noon and during seasons of low demand. As more capacity comes online until 2030, this challenge will only grow.” She added that Greece will need between 4 to 5GW of storage to fully integrate renewable energy. However, as of now, the country does not have even 1MW in operation.
Zacharia emphasized that the partnership with Enspired is critical for addressing these challenges. “To fully integrate these additions, Greece will need 4 to 5GW of storage. Yet today, we do not even have 1MW in operation! That is why we are bringing battery optimisation to Greece together with Enspired: to support the upcoming storage integration,” she stated.
By combining their expertise, Optimus Energy and Enspired aim to create a strategic advantage in the Greek market, providing all-inclusive battery and energy storage optimization services. The integration of Enspired’s technology into the market from the beginning will help optimize the energy storage system’s performance and maximize its impact as renewable energy capacity continues to grow.
