Tilt Renewables Inaugurates Largest Operating Wind Farm in NSW, Australia

Tilt Renewables has launched the Rye Park wind farm, the largest operational wind farm in New South Wales, marking a significant step in advancing the region’s renewable energy capacity. Located north of Yass, the facility was inaugurated by Penny Sharpe, New South Wales Minister for Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Heritage.

More than half of the energy produced by Rye Park is supplied to Newmont’s Cadia gold mine under a long-term power purchase agreement.

The Rye Park wind farm, with a capacity of 396 megawatts, features 66 turbines, each generating 6 megawatts. Over half of its energy output is supplied to Newmont’s Cadia gold mine through a long-term power purchase agreement. The remaining 45% is contracted to AGL, a stakeholder in Tilt Renewables, enhancing the grid’s supply of clean and dependable energy.

Tilt Renewables CEO Anthony Fowler stated: “This project represents a major step forward in Australia’s transition to a clean energy future. With 66 turbines now standing tall across these hills, the fully operational Rye Park Wind Farm can generate up to 396 megawatts of renewable energy – enough to power approximately 215,000 homes. It’s a big win for New South Wales, and a significant milestone for Tilt Renewables, which is a leading Australian-owned renewable energy business and the largest owner of wind and solar generation in the country.”

The opening ceremony included a ribbon-cutting event at one of the turbines and a community gathering at the Rye Park Recreational Ground, emphasizing local involvement. Tilt Renewables has pledged ongoing support for the community, investing A$250,000 in local initiatives during construction. These funds, managed with Hilltops Council, Yass Valley Council, and Upper Lachlan Shire, supported programs such as school mental health initiatives, the Country Education Foundation, and upgrades to the Rye Park Recreational Ground’s facilities, reflecting a commitment to both environmental and community well-being.

New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe said: “Projects like Rye Park Wind Farm show the strong progress being made in the energy transformation. With three out of four of the state’s remaining coal-fired power stations due to close in the next decade, Rye Park plays a vital role in keeping the lights on. The Minns Government welcomes this project that will supply more reliable and affordable energy.”

The Rye Park wind farm strengthens New South Wales’ renewable energy infrastructure, supporting the region’s transition to sustainable energy sources while fostering economic and social benefits for local communities.
