The initiative aligns with AT&T’s strategy to integrate Wifi and cellular services, enhancing connectivity options for its users. Amir Haleem, co-founder of Helium and CEO of Helium Mobile, stated: “Working with AT&T is a massive step forward in our mission to bring affordable and accessible connectivity to the masses. Teaming up with such a global leader in the industry allows us to rapidly accelerate the adoption of Helium and provide real-world value to both AT&T and their subscribers.”
The Helium Network operates over 90,000 active hotspots across the U.S. and Mexico, with users incentivized through cryptocurrency rewards for deploying these small-scale cell towers. The company reports that nearly 500,000 people use its network daily, highlighting its growing reach and reliability.
Through the partnership, AT&T will utilize Helium’s real-time coverage quality metrics, a tool that enhances transparency and usability of network performance data for both the operator and its customers. The integration also incorporates Passpoint Wifi authentication, which streamlines and secures user transitions between different network types, improving the overall connectivity experience.
AT&T joins other major mobile operators, such as Telefónica’s Movistar, in leveraging Helium’s infrastructure to complement traditional cellular services. This collaboration follows Helium Mobile’s introduction of its “Zero Plan,” promoted as the first free phone plan in the U.S., further expanding its innovative approach to connectivity.
By tapping into Helium’s decentralized network, AT&T aims to offer more robust and accessible wireless services, particularly in underserved areas. The partnership reflects a broader industry trend toward combining community-driven and traditional network solutions to meet growing connectivity demands, ensuring seamless service for subscribers nationwide.
