Seabed Deal for Scots Floater Anchorage Site

01 May 2025  by renews
Offshore Solutions Group (OSG) has entered a two-year seabed Exclusivity Agreement with Crown Estate Scotland to develop the Moray FLOW-Park in the Moray Firth, Scotland. This innovative project aims to establish a temporary anchorage site for floating offshore wind (FLOW) foundation units, supporting the logistics and deployment of floating offshore wind projects.

The Moray FLOW-Park will provide wet storage to facilitate turbine integration, streamline logistics, and enhance risk management during project implementation. OSG noted that the agreement enables the company to conduct initial surveys and deepen engagement with local communities and stakeholders in the region.

The project follows a three-year evaluation of over 200 potential sites along the UK coastline, identifying the Moray Firth as an optimal location. Supported by Scottish Enterprise through grants and funding guidance, the initiative aligns with Scotland’s ambitions to advance its offshore wind sector.

OSG Chief Commercial Officer Shane Woodroffe stated: “Our agreement with Crown Estate Scotland allows us to conduct some initial surveys of our proposed sites, and engage further with local stakeholders and communities around our plans. The Moray FLOW-Park is set to truly leverage and enhance Scotland’s existing port infrastructure to deliver its floating offshore wind ambitions.”

The Moray FLOW-Park is designed to complement Scotland’s existing port infrastructure, providing critical support for the efficient deployment of floating offshore wind projects. By offering a dedicated facility for foundation units, the project addresses logistical challenges and strengthens Scotland’s position in the renewable energy sector.

Scottish Enterprise Director for Energy Transition Suzanne Sosna remarked: “The plans for the Moray FLOW-Park align perfectly with our vision and will provide critical infrastructure that supports the effective build out of offshore wind delivery in Scotland. This agreement is tangible evidence of the actions being taken to lead the world in this sector and we are delighted to back the ambition that Offshore Solutions Group has shown.”

The Moray FLOW-Park represents a significant step in advancing floating offshore wind technology, contributing to Scotland’s renewable energy goals and fostering sustainable economic growth in the region. OSG’s collaboration with Crown Estate Scotland and Scottish Enterprise underscores the project’s importance in building a robust offshore wind supply chain.
