The Salboni project is a key part of JSW Energy’s expansion strategy in East India, aimed at strengthening industrial infrastructure and creating significant job opportunities in the region. Earlier this year, the company acquired KSK Mahanadi Power Company, which operates a thermal power plant, further expanding its portfolio.
Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Group, highlighted the project’s significance, stating: “The upcoming 1600 MW Ultra supercritical thermal power plant of JSW Energy is the largest greenfield plant of our Group and the biggest thermal power project by the private sector in the state of West Bengal.” He noted that the plant is expected to generate over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
In addition, JSW Energy is developing a 2,000-acre JSW Industrial Park in Salboni, designed with modern urban planning principles and plug-and-play infrastructure. Jindal added: “The industrial park will be a game changer in the industrial and economic growth in the state as well as the eastern region of our country.”
JSW Energy is advancing toward its goal of achieving 20 GW of power generation capacity well before 2030, with a secured capacity exceeding 30 GW. The company anticipates reaching 14 GW of installed capacity by June 2025. Beyond thermal power, JSW Energy is active in energy storage, with projects totaling 16.3 GWh, including a 12 GWh pumped hydro storage project, one of India’s largest. The company aims to achieve 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.
The Salboni project and the industrial park are expected to drive economic growth and energy reliability in West Bengal, supporting both local communities and the broader region.
