The project involves several upgrades to improve production. These include replacing gas lift systems with electrical submersible pumps on the seabed, reopening previously shut-in wells, replacing umbilicals, optimizing field logistics, and enhancing the capacity of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The total investment for these measures is set at $107 million.
Carl K. Arnet, CEO of BW Energy, stated: “The planned low-risk enhancements to field assets and operations offer very attractive returns and are expected to help unlock material long-term value creation for the company and its stakeholders.” The upgrades are designed to maximize efficiency and extend the field’s productive life.
Located in the Espírito Santo Basin at water depths of 800 to 1,700 meters, the Golfinho field is fully operated by BW Energy, which acquired a 100% working interest in the Golfinho and Camarupim clusters in August 2023. Hydrocarbons are processed through the FPSO Cidade de Vitória, which BW Energy has owned and operated since November 2023. The field has been active since 2007.
The Golfinho Boost project focuses on improving uptime and lowering operating expenses, contributing to sustainable production. The subsea and FPSO enhancements are expected to streamline operations, ensuring reliable output while meeting industry standards. The project’s design prioritizes cost-effective solutions to deliver value to investors and support long-term growth.
BW Energy’s investment reflects its commitment to optimizing assets in Brazil’s offshore energy sector. By leveraging advanced technology and strategic upgrades, the company aims to strengthen its position in the region while contributing to efficient resource extraction. The Golfinho Boost project aligns with BW Energy’s broader strategy to enhance production capacity and operational performance, ensuring sustained output from the field through 2027 and beyond.
The initiative underscores the potential for targeted investments to unlock additional reserves and improve field economics. With the Golfinho field’s infrastructure upgrades, BW Energy is well-positioned to meet growing energy demands while maintaining a focus on operational reliability and cost efficiency in Brazil’s offshore oil industry.
