Bosch to Develop Fuel Cell Batteries in China

03 Dec 2019  by YANGJIAN

Bosch broke ground on a fuel cell battery development center last week in the east China city of Wuxi with the aim of supplying the emerging local fuel cell vehicle market.

The center is due to start operation in 2021. It will become the German supplier’s first fuel-cell battery development facility outside Germany, Bosch said.

The new site will develop, test and produce fuel-cell battery systems and related key components including hydrogen injection valves and electronic air compressors, the German supplier added.

An increasing number of Chinese bus makers such as Zhongtong Group and Higer Bus have developed fuel cell buses in recent years.

As a result, fuel-cell vehicle sales, nearly all of which are buses, have increased rapidly across China.

In the first ten months of the year, 1,327 fuel cell vehicles were sold across the country, eight times the tally of a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
