Renewable Ventures (FRV) and its UK-based peer Harmony Energy have energised their Clay Tye battery energy storage system (BESS) in Essex, England, the pair announced on Thursday.

The BESS has a total capacity of 99 MW/198 MWh and the ability to power more than 300,000 UK homes for two hours at a time.

The Clay Tye site features 52 Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries and Tesla's Autobidder AI software for energy capacity sharing and efficient project management. The batteries are connected to the UK Power Networks distribution grid, allowing them to store energy from renewable sources and provide peak-time flexibility to the national grid, FRV and Harmony Energy said in their joint statement.

This project follows the success of FRV and Harmony Energy's previous BESS projects in the UK -- Contego of 34 MW/68 MWh, and Holes Bay with a capacity of 7.5 MW/15 MWh.

Madrid-based FRV is part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy.
