EDP Renovables Launches a 297 MW Wind Farm in Alberta, Canada

25 Jan 2024  by evwind
EDP Renovables North America has begun commercial operations at the 297 MW Sharp Hills wind farm in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Located in the Special Areas Township, near the villages of Sedalia and New Bridgen, the wind farm will operate under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Canadian energy infrastructure company TC Energy Corp. The complex is powered by 67 V150 wind turbines of 4.5 MW and 4.3 MW from the Danish Vestas.

The wind energy project represents an investment of more than 600 million Canadian dollars (408.4 million euros). It was one of the successful projects awarded in a Canadian renewable energy tender, which led to the signing of a renewable energy support agreement (RESA) with the Alberta Electricity System Operator (AESO) in 2017.

The Sharp Hills construction phase opened more than 400 full-time jobs, EDPR NA noted. The wind farm is the company’s third renewable energy site in Canada, where it has 427 MW of operational capacity.
