Poland’s president talked at the Dubai climate summit about how Poland wants ot reduce greenhouse gas emissions thanks to combining renewable and nuclear energy.

“Climate change is a universal challenge and therefore the entire international community should face it in solidarity, sensibly and in accordance with the values of sustainable development,” Polish President Andrzej Duda said at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.

“Not enough attention has been paid to the human dimension of climate change. I will forever repeat that humans and their needs should be at the center of the transformation,” said Andrzej Duda. “Security and development should be at the heart of climate protection,” he added.

He recalled the guidelines on climate policy from the Climate Summit in Katowice. “People cannot carry the growing burden of climate protection. For the transformation to be fair, it must not reduce their quality of life,” the President said.

“We’re developing wind farms. In terms of investment, Poland was third in the European Union. We are taking steps to build the nuclear energy sector,” said Andrzej Duda, recalling that this would reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Poland.

The President stressed the importance of biodiversity as well. “Nature can help us if we help her,” he said.

“Let’s cooperate, learn from our experience, present a solution. When setting ambitious goals, let us remember the dignity of the ordinary person,” said Andrzej Duda.

COP28 started on 30 November and will last less than a week.
