IGNIS Energy‘s geothermal resource exploration license in Mus, Türkiye has been approved by the Special Provincial Administration.

Embracing the importance of having a balanced geothermal portfolio in terms of risk levels, IGNIS’ recently acquired geothermal exploration and exploitation licenses which are fully in line with the company’s approach. The company had recently secured three geothermal exploration licenses in the Bingöl Province and another one in the Karliova district. IGNIS’ global approach offers a range of opportunities to be developed on separate timelines and with different technologies.

The company’s new license area is in and around a region that has a geologically active character due to tectonic and volcanic processes and is suitable for geothermal energy generation. There are significant geothermal fields neighboring the license area such as Güroymak and Nemrut where the fault segments intersect with each other, resulting in intense fracture systems and opening zones.

As a result of some geological and geochemical studies carried out, natural outflows reaching 30 °C on the surface were detected in the license area, and preliminary geothermometer studies indicate that the water temperature has a potential for energy production from deep underground.

Determined to unlock the untapped geothermal potential in eastern Türkiye, IGNIS stated that they are taking firm steps towards their goal of reaching a portfolio with a renewable energy potential of 1 GW by 2030. The company bring vast experience in the oil and gas industry to the geothermal energy sector to develop and evaluate different technologies for sustainable energy production.
