Masdar, EDF to Develop Solar Power for Amaala

22 Sep 2023  by asian-power
Red Sea Global signed a 25-year concession deal with Électricité de France and Masdar to develop a multi-utilities infrastructure facility for the Amaala destination which includes solar power and battery solutions.

In a statement, Masdar said the off-grid renewable energy system for Amaala will allow 24/7 power and the operation of desalination and wastewater treatment plants that are both powered by renewables.

“Sustainability is a cornerstone of Amaala, and our new partnership with EDF and Masdar will drive us towards achieving a zero-carbon footprint once fully operational,” said Read Sea Global Group CEO John Pagano.

The destination’s renewable supply system can generate up to 410,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) per annum which can provide electricity to around 10,000 households, whilst the battery storage has a 700 MWh battery storage facility.

The parties have the option to extend the concession deal, Masdar said.

Amaala aims to deliver a 30% net conservation benefit to the local ecosystems by 2040.

Amaala will open in early 2025, with the first phase focused on the Triple Bay master plan. Once completed, it will have over 3,900 hotel rooms across 29 hotels and 1,200 high-end resident homes, along with retail establishments, amongst others.
