According to the latest national statistics the UK has a total installed solar capacity of 15.5GW from July 2023.

This is an increase of 6.8% (977MW) since July 2022, demonstrating the highest annual increase since August 2017, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

According to the national statistics there were a total 16,015 solar installations (71MW) in July 2023, with domestic solar installations accounting for 83% of this figure.

DESNZ noted that due to data lags, the figures are provisional and subject to change.

Domestic solar has seen a promising increase in installations this year, as reported by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) which found that the first half of 2023 saw an 82% increase in MCS-certified solar photovoltaic (PV) installations than the first six months of 2022.
