A vibro truck used for seismic surveys in Greenmount Campus, CAFRE, Antrim Northern Ireland (source: GeoEnergy NI)The GeoEnergy NI team, together with sub-contractor GeoPartner, was on location for two weeks and has successfully completed a wide range of gravity, magnetotelluric, and seismic surveys in County Antrim with the goal of exploring the region’s deep geothermal potential. The survey went smoothly and the team has expressed appreciation to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Road Service for their traffic management support, as well as to the local residents and landowners.
With data acquisition completed, the team shall now commence the data processing and interpretation stage. A 3D geological model of the underground geology will be generated from the data, giving the team valuable insight to assess the area’s geothermal heat potential.
GeoEnergy NI is a new project financed by the Department for the Economy (DfE) that aims to explore the geothermal potential in Northern Ireland. The launch event for the project was held about a month ago.
