Uzbekistan will import 2.8 billion cubic meters of Russian gas per year. This is stated in the gas purchase and sale agreement concluded between UzGasTrade and Gazprom Export, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reports.

The document was signed on June 16 by proxy by the head of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and the chairman of the board of Gazprom, Alexei Miller.

The term of the contract is two years. Import of Russian gas will begin on October 1 this year. Uzbekistan will receive 9 million cubic meters per day.

The Ministry of Energy emphasized that the contract was developed entirely on commercial terms.

"This is one of the measures aimed at partially satisfying the growing demand of consumers in our republic for natural gas, especially during the autumn-winter season," the ministry explained.

The cost of Russian gas is not specified. The Ministry of Energy only noted that it was agreed on the basis of market prices in the region, the cost of gas in Uzbekistan and the plans of the republic's authorities to reform the procedure for determining prices based on market principles.
